Estimator - Industrial Construction
We are seeking an experienced Estimator for Industrial Construction to prepare accurate, competitive cost estimates for large-scale industrial projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in preconstruction by analyzing plans and specifications, performing detailed takeoffs, soliciting and evaluating subcontractor and supplier quotations, and identifying cost-saving and constructability opportunities. This role focuses on projects such as waste water treatment plants, power generation facilities, lift and pump stations, and other process plants.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for industrial construction projects including waste water treatment plants, power generation facilities, lift stations, pump stations, and process plants.
- Review drawings, specifications, and RFI/clarifications to develop complete, accurate scopes of work.
- Solicit, evaluate, and compare bids from subcontractors and suppliers; develop subcontract scopes of work and bid packages.
- Develop material, labor, equipment, and subcontract cost breakdowns and assemble final proposals and bid summaries.
- Perform constructability and value-engineering reviews to identify cost savings, schedule impacts, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Maintain and update historical cost databases, unit price libraries, and estimate templates for continuous improvement.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, schedulers, and safety teams to ensure estimates align with project requirements and site conditions.
- Analyze project risks and contingencies; recommend appropriate allowances and escalation factors.
- Present estimates and pricing rationale to internal stakeholders and clients; support contract negotiations.
- Conduct site visits and pre-bid meetings as needed to validate scope and gather field information.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, codes, standards, and company estimating procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Civil/Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience preferred.
- Minimum 5+ years of progressive estimating experience in industrial construction, with direct experience on waste water treatment plants, power generation facilities, lift/pump stations, or process plants.
- Proven track record preparing comprehensive estimates, bids, and proposals for large-scale industrial projects.
- Strong proficiency with estimating software (e.g., Sage Estimating, Pro Est, HCSS), Microsoft Excel, Bluebeam, and the ability to read AutoCAD or Revit drawings.
- Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical, piping, electrical, concrete, and structural scopes common to industrial and process plant projects.
- Experience developing and managing subcontractor bid processes and supplier quotations.
- Excellent analytical, numerical, and attention-to-detail skills; strong written and verbal communication and negotiation abilities.
- Ability to perform site visits and collaborate with cross-functional teams; valid drivers license and willingness to travel to project sites.
- Familiarity with industry codes, standards, and regulatory requirements applicable to wastewater and power generation projects.
- Preferred:
Professional certifications such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE), AACE certification, or equivalent; OSHA 10/30 or contractor safety credentials.
