Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Structural Project Engineer to lead structural design efforts on a diverse portfolio of commercial, residential, and infrastructure projects with our Sacramento office. This role is designed for an engineer with six or more years of experience who is ready to take full ownership of projects from concept through construction, serve as a primary point of contact for clients, and mentor junior engineers on the team.

You will apply your deep technical expertise to deliver safe, efficient, and code‑compliant structural solutions while helping shape the direction of our Sacramento practice.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead structural analysis and design on projects of varying scale and complexity, applying industry‑standard software and engineering judgment to deliver sound, efficient solutions
  • Own the development of structural drawings, specifications, and technical documentation, ensuring full compliance with applicable codes and standards
  • Conduct site assessments and evaluations to identify structural requirements and potential challenges
  • Lead coordination with multidisciplinary teams including architects, MEP engineers, and contractors, driving project alignment and successful execution
  • Review and approve construction documents, shop drawings, and submittals for structural compliance, providing clear and timely feedback
  • Manage construction administration independently, providing technical guidance and resolving on‑site structural issues with confidence and authority
  • Optimize structural designs for cost‑effectiveness, sustainability, and constructability
  • Keep project files and documentation organized and audit‑ready
  • Keep pace with evolving building codes, industry standards, and best practices, and bring that knowledge into your daily work
  • Present technical findings and recommendations clearly to clients, team members, and stakeholders
  • Serve as the primary client contact on assigned projects, building trusted relationships and managing expectations through clear, proactive communication
  • Manage project scope, schedule, and budget, coordinating with project managers to keep deliverables on track and within fee
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers and Engineering Designers, reviewing their work and supporting their technical development
  • Support business development efforts including proposal writing, client presentations, and identifying opportunities to expand existing client relationships
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering;
    Master’s degree preferred
  • PE license
  • At least six years of relevant full‑time experience in structural engineering design, with a track record of leading projects independently
  • Proficiency in structural analysis software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, ETABS, SAP
    2000)
  • Solid understanding of structural engineering principles, mechanics, and materials
  • Knowledge of building codes, standards, and construction practices
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for clear project documentation and collaboration
  • Proven ability to lead projects and teams independently while collaborating effectively across disciplines
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • This role includes regular desk work and occasional site visits, which may involve climbing ladders, navigating uneven terrain, and light lifting (up to 15 lbs).
