Financial Manager, CFO
Overview
We are seeking a proven Finance Manager to oversee the financial operations of the Japan subsidiary based in Tokyo. This role requires a hands-on leader who can manage a broad range of responsibilities across finance, accounting, and general administration, while acting as a trusted business partner to the local leadership team.
The position reports directly to the CFO, Americas & APAC, with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the APAC General Manager. The Finance Manager will support business reviews through accurate financial reporting, insightful business analysis, and strategic financial advice.
ResponsibilitiesFinance & Accounting
- Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Lead and execute month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities
- Prepare financial reports and reporting packages for submission to global headquarters
- Manage day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring compliance with company policies and local regulations
- Maintain and continuously improve internal controls and accounting processes
- Liaise with external accounting firms, tax advisors, and auditors
- Handle tax audits, customs inspections, and social insurance investigations
- Support the CFO with APAC-level financial reporting and analysis
General Administration
- Manage company contracts, internal documentation, and company seals
- Support office operations, internal events, and vendor relationships
- Oversee facilities management and related administrative activities
HR & Labor Support
- Coordinate with external payroll and social insurance service providers
- Manage work rules and internal regulations
- Administer the attendance management system JOBCAN
- Support employee onboarding and offboarding processes
Skills and Education
- Substantial management experience gained in Accounting or Finance
- Hands-on experience as a primary contributor to monthly close processes
- Strong proficiency in Excel (VLOOKUP, SUMIF, Pivot Tables), Word, and Power Point
- Practical experience with ERP systems and financial data visualization or analysis tools
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Accounting or Finance
- Native-level fluency in both Japanese and English (reading, writing, and speaking)
- Experienced working in a foreign-affiliated or multinational company
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365, Power BI, and/or IBM Cognos
- Prior experience in general administration or HR support functions
- Experience drafting, reviewing, or refining contracts and internal agreements
- Ability to influence without authority is essential
