Contract to Hire Assistant Controller
Our client is a high-end commercial nonresidential real estate group located in Los Angeles. They are seeking a Contract to Hire Assistant Controller to join their team. The Assistant Controller will report to the Controller and will be responsible for managing the accounting operations of the company, including the supervision of accounting staff, ensuring the accuracy of the general ledger, and preparing financial reports.
Job Summary: We are seeking a detail-oriented and strategic Assistant Controller to support the financial operations of our commercial real estate portfolio. This role is ideal for a finance professional with strong technical accounting skills, leadership capabilities, and hands-on experience with Yardi. The Assistant Controller will play a key role in maintaining financial integrity, driving process improvements, and supporting the Controller with strategic initiatives, including task force assignments during periods of transition or growth.
Key Duties:Maintain and review the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers, ensuring accuracy and completeness of all entries.
Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
Manage and oversee the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate completion of all closing procedures.
Manage daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and lease administration.
Handle lease duties, including the accuracy of lease entry, billing, and cash receipts.
Verifies accounts by reconciling statements and transactions. Resolves account discrepancies by investigating documentation, issuing stop payments and adjustments. Maintains financial security by following internal accounting controls.
Manage cash flow, including forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis for each property.
Analyze and interpret financial data, including financial statements, to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts.
Assist with audits and provide necessary documentation and support to internal and external auditors.
Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
Supervise and mentor accounting staff, including hiring, training, and performance management.
Utilize and optimize accounting systems, including Yardi and M3.
Ensure adherence to company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
Compare a company's internal financial records to its bank statements and resolve any discrepancies.
- Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years as an Accounting Manager in commercial nonresidential real estate.
- Proficient in Excel.
- Proficient in Yardi.
- Minimum of 5 years managing an accounting team.
- Must be able to work onsite.
