As the Accounting Administrator II, you will function as a highly skilled professional managing and overseeing the workload of professional accounting staff in the Fiscal and Business Services unit. You will work independently and use good judgment to produce accurate, high quality work products, manage multiple tasks and priorities, meet due dates, establish and maintain effective working relationships, and have good oral and written communication skills.

Specifically, you will:

  • Oversee accounting duties for month end and year end closing activities.
  • Oversee the preparation of the office’s financial statements, which includes expenditure accruals.
  • Manage month-end and year-end closing activities including general ledger maintenance, cash and expense reconciliations and budget to actual reports.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for FI$Cal and provide training to staff on accounting processes and system functionality.
  • Monitor complex financial reports, projections, and analyses for executive management and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate audits and respond to inquiries from oversight agencies, ensuring timely and accurate submission of required documentation.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance on technical issues and professional development.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • This position is eligible for participation in the office’s hybrid telework program. Work at the alternate work location must be in California and conducted in a space that is ergonomically sound, private, distraction-free, and has safe working conditions to be eligible to telework.
  • Work performed in the office is in an air-conditioned high-rise building with elevator access and both natural and artificial lighting.
  • Work may require sitting for an extended period of time using a personal computer and the use of standard office equipment, such as phones, copiers or scanners.

This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the US without the need for a visa sponsorship by the start date of employment. The California State Auditor’s Office is not an E-Verify employer.

WHO ARE YOU?
  • You have working knowledge and experience with financial, government, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) accounting functions.
  • You have experience processing, reviewing, analyzing, reconciling, and reporting general ledger and financial data.
  • You have strong communication skills with demonstrated experience synthesizing information and communicating in a clear and concise manner both verbally and written.
  • You have expert knowledge of accounting principles, practices and functions.
  • You excel at managing multiple projects and priorities with competing deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • You have experience using research and information-gathering techniques to support decision making.
  • You are proficient with tools and software including Microsoft 365, Adobe, Docu Sign and FI$Cal.
  • You have the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve fiscal goals.
  • You have experience leading and managing teams while demonstrating the ability to communicate a clear vision, set and monitor goals and expectations, foster a collaborative work environment, and encourage leadership and initiative.
