Salary: $6,330.00 – $8,165.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable. Final Filing Date: 3/4/2026.
Work Arrangement:
Telework Hybrid. Part-time telework available; telework requires California residency. Hybrid telework opportunities with possible in-office requirements based on State and departmental needs.
Work Schedule:
8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.;
Monday – Friday.

The Budget and Fiscal Analysis Branch (BFAB) supports DMV’s multibillion-dollar budget decisions by providing strategic and technical budgeting and financial support. BFAB analyzes financial and workload data, allocates departmental funding, sets program/service/product fees, and creates detailed internal and external reports.
As part of the Cost Accounting team, the analyst will perform various cost analyses, gather, calculate, and validate allocations of resources, activities, and cost objects for an activity-based costing (ABC) system.
Responsibilities include:
- Perform complex analyses on model results and reports with completeness and accuracy.
- Develop, maintain, enhance, and publish ABC reports and dashboards for end-users.
- Prepare fiscal analyses of legislation as requested by the DMV Legislation Office.
- Prepare ad hoc reports, special costings, and other assignments as needed.
- Present findings and recommendations to executive management and external agencies in person or virtually.

Qualifications and Desirable QualitiesDesirable qualifications include interest in public service, budgeting or fiscal operations; strong analytical skills in budgeting, workload analysis, accounting, or organizational planning; proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook; ability to perform multi-step calculations; working knowledge of Access (import/export, queries, design); public speaking; knowledge of cost management software; ability to work independently and in a team; strong interpersonal and written communication skills;
detail-oriented workload and project management; and ability to meet tight deadlines. Experience with accounting or cost accounting and reporting/analysis is valued.
