Under the general direction of the Supervising Tax Auditor (STA) II, in the Local Revenue Branch, the Supervising Tax Auditor (STA) I supervises a team of audit and technical staff responsible for investigating and resolving inquiries from local jurisdictions regarding the allocation of local tax and transactions and use tax, as well as processing scheduled tax returns ensuring accurate and timely allocation.
The STA I is responsible for planning and monitoring the audit program within this area which includes providing guidance to audit staff, resolving areas of contention between the auditor and affected jurisdictions and/or consultants, and reviewing the most complex scheduled sales and use tax returns, making returns adjustments, processing fund transfer approvals, and ensuring timely allocation, funding, and payments to local jurisdictions in the State of California.
The STA I will be responsible for special projects related to these functions, responding to management requests for information, providing statistics on the effectiveness of these programs, and analyzing and evaluating proposed legislation.

- Position requires employee to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a background investigation.
- Have a permanent civil service appointment with CDTFA, or
- Are current or former employees of the legislature for 2 or more years as defined in Government Code 18990, or
- Are current or former non‑elected exempt employees of the executive branch for 2 or more consecutive years as defined in Govt. Code 18992, or
- Are persons retired from the United States military honorably discharged from active duty with a service disability or honorably discharged from active duty as defined in Government Code 18991.
