Job Description And Duties

The School Fiscal Services Division (SFSD) of the California Department of Education (CDE) is the right team for you. Under the general direction of the Supervisor I, the Analyst II provides time‑sensitive analytical services in support of data collection from, and apportionment delivery to, local educational agencies (LEAs). Specifically, the Analyst II will perform complex analytical duties including but not limited to:

Responsibilities
  • Have lead responsibility for specified components of the local control funding formula (LCFF) calculations for LEAs (school districts, charter schools, and/or county offices of education). Compile, analyze, and process apportionment related data in specific LCFF assignment area. Analyze current year data to ensure accuracy using methods such as trend analysis and reasonableness checks. Thoroughly review data to identify discrepancies and ensure compliance with laws.

    Consult with LEA representatives to confirm validity and appropriate reporting of data.
  • As part of a team, develop, update and test principal apportionment data collection software and LCFF funding exhibits. Ensure updates made for assigned programs in the Principal Apportionment Software and Integrated Apportionment System are in accordance with current law. Work closely with other apportionment staff and the Technology Services Division to integrate those calculations into the automated apportionment system to ensure the appropriate allocation of state funds.
  • Perform research and analysis of legislation, the California Education Code, the state budget, and other statutory regulations and provisions impacting assignment area. Stay current on trends and relevant changes related to school finance. Prepare issue papers, bill analyses, reports and program advisories for affected areas of responsibility.
  • Provide consultation and technical expertise to LEA staff relating to Principal Apportionment software used to collect apportionment‑related data, as well as apportionment processes and funding calculations. Respond verbally and in writing to inquiries from LEAs and the public.
  • Develop and document procedures. Keep management apprised of status of assignments and issues/problems in assignment area. Assist staff with critical projects, perform other job‑related duties as needed.

Personal Leave Program 2025 Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025. This position is subject to PLP 2025 and will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits through June 2027. The salary range(s) shown on this job posting does not reflect the salary reduction.

Working Conditions

TELEWORK OPTION HYBRID This position is headquartered in Sacramento and may be eligible for a hybrid telework schedule for eligible applicants residing in California. A hybrid telework schedule includes working remotely and working a minimum of 2 days per week in the office.
