Description:
As an Accountant, you’ll be responsible for advanced financial analysis, banking activities, accounting transactions and operations, and reporting to support the organization’s financial health. This role emphasizes accuracy in financial data, process optimization, and insights for informed decision-making. This is a hands-on, fully on-site role in Sacramento, CA, with no supervisory duties and a strong focus on accounting principles, financial analysis, and nonprofit compliance.

- Prepare, analyze, and reconcile financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
- Review daily banking activities.
- Assist with grant accounting, fund tracking, and financial reporting for restricted and unrestricted funds.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to support strategic financial planning.
- Conduct financial data analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for process improvement.
- Partner with internal departments to provide financial insights and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Support the month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries and reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit regulations, audits, and financial policies.
- Respond to frequent ad hoc requests for financial analysis and decision support.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives and system enhancements to improve accuracy and efficiency.
- Collaborate with external auditors and assist in preparing audit documentation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience, or a combination of education and experience). - Experience:
- Minimum of 4 years in accounting, financial analysis, or a related role, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
- Experience with accounting software systems required (Quick Books Online preferred).
- Strong understanding of accounting functions, including payroll posting and accounts receivable follow-up.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit financial reporting requirements.
- Active CPA license not required.
- Skills:
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software such as Quick Books Online.
