As part of a dynamic team, this position will provide guidance and direction to the Executive Support staff. Ensures coverage is available in steady state and during disaster incidents.
About the OpportunityUnder the general direction of the Chief Deputy Director, Policy and Administration, the incumbent performs a variety of tasks in support of various Cal OES programs and is responsible for the supervision and mentoring of a group of professional and analytical staff. The incumbent is responsible for various special projects, including briefing the Executive team on status and recommendations, and monitoring implementation.
Additionally, the incumbent reviews, analyzes, processes, and prepares responses to a broad variety of forms, documents, and correspondence and performs a variety of duties designated to assist the Executive Office with day-to-day activities and responsibilities.

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
- Knowledge of Microsoft (MS) Office Suite (Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint, Outlook), Adobe Acrobat Professional and various video conferencing platforms.
- Knowledge of business grammar, formatting, and editing skills.
- Communication Skills, including managing email and phone inquiries.
- Customer Service, including time management and attention to details.
- Ability to prioritize tasks.
- Demonstrated capacity for assuming increasing responsibility, originality, open-mindedness, and tact.
- Knowledge of governmental functions and organization at the state and local levels.
- Principles and practices of employee supervision, development, and training.
- Ability to gain and maintain the confidence and cooperation of those contacted during the course of work.
In Office: This position supports and manages the day-to-day business operations for Cal OES which is handled in an office location. This is not considered a hybrid telework position.

In the event of an emergency, employees may be contacted and requested to report to work in the event of an emergency. This service may require irregular work hours, work locations other than the official duty location, and may include duties other than those specified in your official position description.
Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and you may be required to relocate to emergency sites.
