The Planning and Preparedness branch at Cal OES is looking for a Senior Emergency Services Coordinator who can help shape the future of California’s resilience. This isn’t your average planning role. From the State Emergency Plan to specialized strategies for power disruptions, schools, and animal rescue, your work will be the playbook the state follows when it matters most.

Senior Emergency Services Coordinator role focusing on planning, preparedness, and prevention for California’s resilience. Responsibilities include collaboration with state agencies and NGOs to develop strategic plans, including the State Emergency Plan and specialized strategies for critical areas such as power disruptions, schools, and animal rescue. Speaks to shaping guidance, exercises, and playbooks used by the state when authorities respond to emergencies.
WorkingConditions
- Hybrid Telework: This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule. Additional in-office days may be required based on business needs.
- DMV Pull Program: Participation in the DMV Pull Program is required. The position requires a valid Driver’s License (DL). You must answer questions addressing your DL on your application and provide your DL number, class, expiration date, endorsements, and restrictions.
- Conflict of Interest (COI): This position is designated under the Conflict of Interest Code and requires completion of Form 700 within 30 days of appointment. Failure to comply may void the appointment.

The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) is an emergency response, homeland security, and disaster recovery agency and as a result, is a dynamic and exciting place to work in a team-oriented environment. Cal OES provides training to enhance the understanding of emergency and incident management to all employees.
The Planning, Preparedness, and Prevention Directorate develops and maintains statewide plans and planning guidance for local emergency management, state agencies, and tribal governments, including specialized programs for radiological preparedness, dam safety, seismic hazards, and earthquake early warning. This directorate also includes the California Specialized Training Institute which provides exercise support and courses in emergency management, hazardous materials response, criminal justice/officer safety, fire & rescue, and crisis communications.
In the event of an emergency, employees may be contacted and requested to report to work outside of normal working hours (evenings/nights, weekends, and holidays). Travel requirements in support of emergency operations can be extensive (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require relocation to emergency sites.
