Job Description and Duties

The Audit and Information Section's work processes are done in a team environment where initiative, independence, originality, and professionalism are needed to complete tasks with minimal supervision. The position will challenge your organizational, analytical, and communication skills. The Audit Support Unit (ASU) seeks an ambitious and driven individual to join our team in a Business Taxes Specialist (BTS) I position.

Responsibilities:

  • Respond to complex tax inquiries received from taxpayers and the general public.
  • Assist the field office audit team with highly technical and complicated tax issues.
  • Complete complex and time‑sensitive assignments as requested by upper management.
  • Act in a lead capacity and serve as a highly skilled technical consultant on large complex projects.

  • California Revenue and Taxation Code
  • California Tax Regulations
  • CDTFA Tax Annotations
  • CDTFA Audit and Compliance Manuals
  • CDTFA operating systems

Under Government Code 14200, this position may be eligible for partial telework for eligible candidates residing in California. All telework/hybrid schedules require staff to report to the office a minimum number of days per week. Schedules are subject to change.

Per the California Budget Act of 2025, all CDTFA salaries are subject to the provisions of the State of California’s Personal Leave Program.

  • Depending on location, may be working in a high‑rise building.
