Position: Sheriff's Chief Deputy **Promotional Only**

Position Overview

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a qualified individual to serve as the Sheriff’s Chief Deputy. The successful candidate will direct, manage, supervise, and coordinate the activities and operations of a service area comprising multiple major organizational functions. Under direction, duties include coordinating with other divisions, departments, outside agencies, and the general public, and performing related responsibilities as assigned.

Stipend & Condition

There is an additional 3.35% Management Differential added to the posted salary for this class. Candidates must currently hold permanent employment status with Sacramento County.

Employment Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of full‑time paid experience in the class of Sheriff’s Captain in Sacramento County. A Bachelor’s Degree, or higher, from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

General Qualifications

Compliance with California Government Code, Section 1031.

POST Requirement

Incumbents in this class are required to maintain Continued Professional Training (CPT) in accordance with POST regulations.

Criminal History and Background Checks

Screening pursuant to Board of Supervisors Resolution No. 82‑602, Personnel Policies, and applicable federal and state laws.
