Job Description And Duties

Under the supervision of the Personnel Supervisor I, the Personnel Specialist is responsible for processing a full range of personnel and payroll duties. The Person nel Specialist interprets and applies departmental policies; bargaining unit contracts; and personnel-related laws and regulations of the State Personnel Board (SPB), California Department of Human Resources (CalHR), California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), and State Controller's Office (SCO) related to personnel appointments, payroll, benefits, and attendance records.

We offer a hybrid work schedule that is consistent with the department’s telework policy.

Employees in this position work in an office setting in a high-rise building in downtown Sacramento and are required to work extensively on computers as necessary for drafting of letters, other documents, research, email communication, file review, training, and other purposes. Being in a stationary position for long periods of time.

Special Requirements

  • Describe your experience as it relates to the administration of personnel, payroll, and/or benefit transactions for employees.
  • Based on your own personal experience, describe how you have managed multiple assignments with competing deadlines.

The SOQ must be no more than two pages in length, with one-inch margins, and in 12-point font. Responses must be numbered and presented in the order as they appear in the job announcement.
