Overview
Daily coordination of Health Information Management data and indexing. Ensure its quality, accuracy, accessibility, and security in both paper and electronic forms. Use EHR to categorize patient information for insurance reimbursement purposes, for databases and registries, and to maintain patients’ medical and treatment histories. Ensure accurate and timely release of patient health records, including attorney requests and subpoenas.
Schedule & LocationThis role is on-site (100%) in Sacramento, CA (95811).
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm
- Knowledge of HIPAA and Release of Information regulatory mandates.
- Review, define and document within OnBase and coordinate with multi-disciplinary clinical team.
- Ensure HIPAA policy, productivity and regulatory management of protected health information.
- Follow all implemented processes to ensure compliance with HIPAA regulatory requirements.
- Maintain surveillance of incomplete patient health records and follow up until records are completed and filed.
- Responsible for distributing release of information requests to physicians and clinical leadership in accordance with rules and regulations.
- Review medical records and indexing for completeness, accuracy and conformance to accepted accreditation standards.
- Liaise with EPIC Site Specialist team and operational teams to assist with quality assurance, program logic, and data processing and indexing processes.
- Display a high degree of tact and the ability to communicate regulatory requirements to patients and others.
- Demonstrate a caring and customer-engaged approach; listen to patients and co-workers, and handle calls and in-person contacts in a friendly and courteous manner.
- Work closely with patient registration, medical clinic, call center and other departments to facilitate medical records release requests.
- 3-5 years of Health Information Management experience, or equivalent combination of experience and certification.
- 3-5 years’ experience in a clinical, hospital or healthcare related environment.
- Knowledge of healthcare information management practices and principles and experience with indexing patient health information within an electronic health record management application.
- Knowledge of OnBase, Right Fax, EPIC Care tools and applications.
- Experience producing high quality deliverables with minimal daily direction.
