Job Summary
#CA-DS The Staff Pharmacist is an integral member of the health care team and collaborates with medical office service coordinators, pharmacy technicians, providers, clinic staff, and third‑party payors to facilitate timely access to prescribed therapies. The pharmacist provides clinical support in various steps of the authorization request process, supports medical staff in reviewing/submitting appeals, and assists with developing pharmacy involvement in medical benefit services.

- California Pharmacist License eligible and possess a valid license at the time of hire
- Doctor of Pharmacy Degree (Pharm
D), or equivalent training - One (1) year of work experience in a health system pharmacy practice
- Experience in pharmacy operations
- Working knowledge of federal and state/local regulations around medication handling requirements and controlled substance accountability
- Written and oral communication skills to clearly and concisely provide information with exceptional interpersonal skills to healthcare providers
- Interpersonal skills that establish and maintain a friendly, welcoming environment for customers, demonstrate an interested, understanding, compassionate manner, maintain a courteous and calm demeanor, and proactively approach to negotiate with and persuade others to take required action
- Ability to maintain composure, efficiency and a positive, customer‑service oriented manner during periods of peak workload, with frequent interruptions, under tight deadlines, and when interacting with challenging customers who may be ill, angry, or emotionally distressed
- Problem‑solving skills to independently recognize and define a problem, identify the resources available to help solve the problem, create and implement viable solutions, and follow through to ensure the problem is resolved to the satisfaction of all parties
- Decision‑making skills to independently exercise delegated authority to take action, and to recognize when it is appropriate to seek assistance from others when limits of delegated authority have been reached
- Computer skills allowing for analysis or large databases and including but not limited to Microsoft Office software
- Ability to work with, direct, and evaluate pharmacy residents and students
- Relevant Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) Certification
- Three (3) years of Ambulatory Care Pharmacy, Infusion Pharmacy, Managed Care, or PBM Pharmacy practice experience
- Completion of Post Graduate Year 1 (PGY1) Pharmacy Practice Residency
- Completion of Post Graduate Year 2 (PGY2) Pharmacy Practice or Specialty Residency
- Oncology and Infusion experience
- Experience precepting and evaluating residents and students
- Thorough knowledge of pharmacy laws and regulations
- Computer skills that facilitate clinical patient data medication order entry and other basic clinical software programs
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with and educate patients about their medication therapy
- Demonstrated ability to triage
- Demonstrated ability to identify medication‑related problems in patients, communicate them to a patient’s physician and offer recommendations
- Ability to navigate third‑party reimbursement programs
- 80% – Clinical Support for Prior Authorization
- 10% – Quality Assurance and Reporting
- 5% – Fosters Academic Excellence/Demonstrates Professionalism
- 5% – Other duties as assigned.
