Unit Assistant

Job Summary and Responsibilities

The incumbent is a member of the healthcare team who facilitates unit operations through patient registration and scheduling, order processing, requisition of services and patient procedures, processing and tracking of charges, maintaining accurate and complete patient charts, managing unit clerical supplies, and demonstrating proper communications etiquette while managing multiple phone and intercom lines. The Unit Assistant may also assist in patient care as assigned and may have access to or be required to distribute drugs, needles or syringes from storage locations as defined by hospital policy/procedure.

As a Unit Aide, you will provide essential non‑clinical support and comfort to patients and staff, assisting other members of the healthcare team under the direction of a Staff Nurse. You will support daily unit operations by assisting with patient comfort needs, transporting patients, performing light cleaning, stocking supplies, and relaying messages to nurses to ensure an organized environment. The ideal candidate exhibits a helpful, compassionate demeanor, strong attention to detail, and a proactive approach to maintaining unit efficiency and team support within a dynamic healthcare setting.

• One year experience as Unit Assistant/Clerk or equivalent in a healthcare setting.
• Previous experience assisting in direct patient care.
• Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
• Medical terminology course or equivalent knowledge.
