The Director of Community Support Services will be responsible for leading and inspiring the development of the Gender Health Center’s Community Support Services (CSS) department, which provides comprehensive case management, peer healthcare navigation, resource referral, cultural programs, and supportive services alongside Two-Spirit, transgender, gender diverse, and intersex people and the broader community. The Director of CSS will provide supervision and direct support to CSS staff team members, volunteers, and trainees to ensure quality care services, and engage in ongoing program development and evaluation.

The Gender Health Center (GHC) is a Trans and Global Majority- led nonprofit organization located on lands stewarded by the Plains Miwok and Nisenan peoples also known as Sacramento, CA. The GHC is dedicated to ending the pathologization of trans people and creating more equitable access to healthcare and resources through our programs, training, and direct services that prioritize the wellness and joy of Queer, Transgender, Black, Indigenous, People of Color (QTBIPOC).
Our unwavering dedication lies in fostering radically hopeful, safer, and healthier futures for transgender, non-binary, and gender-expansive people across all intersecting identities. The GHC provides access to affirming healthcare, counseling, and community programs that address our unique needs. Services provided by GHC include a free hormone clinic, mental health counseling, Mental Health Counseling Training Program, support groups and culturally specific community programs, HIV and STI testing and linkage to HIV healthcare, mobile harm reduction services, a hosted electrolysis clinic, legal assistance, advocacy, and resource referrals.
Through its advocacy efforts, the GHC has played a significant role in raising awareness about trans healthcare inequities and promoting policy changes to improve the rights and well-being of transgender community members. GHC has actively engaged with legislators, community leaders, and healthcare institutions to advocate for access to gender-affirming care, trans-inclusive policies, and equitable access to services. As GHC continues to evolve, the organization remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting access to gender-affirming care, resources, and health equity to support the empowerment of transgender and gender expansive persons to live authentically and thrive in our communities.
What You’ll Do
The general and specific job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Team Leadership and Supervision
- Provide leadership, direction, and task support to the Community Support Services team, including the Community Care Manager, CSS Specialist(s), volunteers, and trainees/interns.
- Foster a collaborative, supportive, and healing-centered work environment that encourages growth, professional development, and mission alignment.
- Conduct regular supervision meetings and complete on time semi-annual performance reviews to support team effectiveness, morale, and overall wellness.
- Model emotionally intelligent leadership by holding tension, addressing conflict directly and constructively, and supporting staff through transition and uncertainty.
- Provide clear expectations, timely coaching, and constructive feedback.
- Attend professional development opportunities that are offered by grant funders.
- Stay up-to-date with best practices, policies, and legislation related to gender affirming care and healthcare access, and incorporate this knowledge into your work.
- Participate and facilitate team meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge base of the team.
- Provide quarterly reports of CSS progress and projects to the executive team.
- Create, refine, and maintain data management systems to ensure accurate, efficient, and confidential reporting.
