The Certification Section (CS) is responsible for reviewing and processing applications for medical professionals. CS provides information to physicians, technologists, technicians, and other persons regarding the certification requirements. CS processes applicant’s examination results. CS reviews and takes effective actions on sensitive telephone, written, and Internet requests from the public and the department. The CS staff works to ensure we carry out the laws and regulations intended to protect the public, facilities, and medical professionals.

Job Description And Duties

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by providing information and assistance regarding the certification of X-ray imaging related to and in accordance with the California Code of Regulations, Title 17 and Health and Safety Code.

The Program Technician (PT) II performs the more difficult program specialist work, providing sensitive and detailed information and/or direction to the public, employees, other public jurisdictions, or clients. The PT II is required to work independently, possess good communication skills and use initiative in solving problems.

The incumbent works under the general supervision of the Supervising Program Technician (SPT) II of the Certification Support Unit (CSU).

In July 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025. This program temporarily reduces employees’ monthly base pay in exchange for paid leave credits. This position is subject to PLP 2025 and will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits through June 2027. The salary ranges shown on this job posting do not reflect the salary reduction.
