HRIS Professional, Regulatory Compliance Specialist

Tesco, a UFT company, is seeking a Payroll & HR Specialist to join our dynamic Human Resources team in Sacramento, California. The successful candidate will be responsible fortheaccurateandtimelyprocessing of payroll for all employee groups, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This positionmaintainscomprehensive payroll records, provides employee support, and collaborates closely with both HR and Finance departments to uphold data integrity andfacilitateseamless payroll operations.
Additionally, the roleassistswith onboarding processes and coordinatesbenefitsadministration for TESCO employees in California and across other states.
- Processfullcyclepayroll for hourly, salaried, and multistate employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Review andvalidatetimecards, overtime, deductions, commissions, and adjustments.
- Monitor and reconcile approved time off, leave balances, and vacation accruals.
- Ensure proper setup and maintenance of employee records including new hires, terminations, rate changes, and garnishments.
- Run pre-payroll andpost-payrollaudits and reports to ensure data accuracy.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and updates (e.g., wage/hour, tax changes).
- Ensure payroll records aremaintainedper regulatory and internal record retention requirements.
- Prepare and support audits (internal and external) as needed.
- Utilize HRIS/Payroll systems (e.g., Paylocity or similar) to enter, update, and report payroll data.
- Generate recurring andadhocpayroll reports for HR, Finance, and leadership.
- Serve as a point of contact for employee payroll inquiries, providingtimelyandaccurateresolutions.
- Support onboarding by ensuring new hiresareset up properly in payroll systems.
- Collaborate with the HR team members on benefits, onboarding, dataaccuracyand all other day-to-day requests.
Experience:
- 3–5+ years of payroll processing experience.
- Experience with multistate payroll requirements.
- Strong understanding of payroll regulations, tax withholding, and wage laws.
- Proficiency with HRIS/Payroll systems (Paylocity experience preferred).
- High levelof accuracy, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Knowledge ofbenefitsadministration and HR processes.
- Payroll certification
Preferred(e.g., CPP or FPC). - Ability to manage highly confidential information with discretion.
- $65k - $85k
- Pay will depend on education, experience, skills, and location. The posted range reflects our current expectations but may change. Tesco also offers a benefits package with health coverage, paid time off, holidays, and a 100% match on 401K contributions up to 4% of earnings.
