Under the general direction of the Chief, Infrastructure Services Branch (IT Manager II), the incumbent serves as the Chief of the Enterprise Geographic Information System (GIS) Infrastructure Information Technology (IT) Office. The office consists of IT professionals across multiple classification levels, ranging from IT Associate to IT Specialist II, who support the management and advancement of Caltrans’ enterprise GIS infrastructure and applications.
The incumbent provides leadership and oversight of highly complex IT functions, including advanced systems analysis, design and administration of GIS services, enterprise application administration, systems integration, testing, maintenance, and operations. The incumbent has full management responsibility for establishing and enforcing standards, processes, and procedures related to the analysis, design, implementation, maintenance, operation, and procurement of GIS technologies and solutions. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for organizing, planning, coordinating, directing, and controlling all activities associated with the daily operations of the Enterprise GIS IT Office, ensuring alignment with business objectives and enterprise IT strategies.

Examination Information:
This examination will utilize an evaluation of each candidate’s experience and education (E&E) compared to a standard developed from the Class Specification. This examination will not establish a civil service list; candidates will be notified of their examination results. If using Out of Class (OOC) experience, you must submit a copy of signed and approved OOC documentation. Education must meet minimum qualifications as specified.

Two years of experience as an Information Technology Supervisor I; or One year of experience as an Information Technology Supervisor II; or Six years of information technology experience performing a variety of progressively responsible technical, analytical, or supervisory tasks in support of computer systems or services in one or more of the major six domains or a closely related or emerging IT field.
At least two years of experience shall include lead or supervisory responsibility on highly complex or specialized IT systems or services. Masters or doctorate degree may substitute for four years of the required general IT experience; bachelor’s degree may substitute for three years; associate’s degree may substitute for one year. When using education to meet minimum qualifications, education must include 15 semester units (or 22.5 quarter units) of IT or closely related coursework.
