Job Description And Duties

Under the general supervision of the Chief Information Officer (CIO), the Information Technology Specialist II is responsible for designing and administering the department’s GIS infrastructure, performing a variety of GIS and database tasks as well as creating and maintaining applications. The incumbent maintains expertise in various hardware, software, services, and programming languages including, but not limited to: ESRI software and tools, MS SQL Server, Windows Server, Python, JavaScript, and a variety of GIS, database, and web development tools.

The incumbent performs GIS programming functions as a project lead, managing ESRI Enterprise Geodatabases as well as ESRI’s suite of GIS server and desktop applications, provides advice on emerging technical developments and how these might impact critical DOC systems. Communicates effectively, in discussions, presentations, and in writing with peers, clients, customers, and management.

Special Requirements
  • This recruitment will require all interview candidates to attend in‑person interviews at the Department of Conservation Headquarters located at 715 P Street, Sacramento, CA 95814. No virtual interviews will be offered.
  • The Department of Conservation does not participate in the E‑Verify system or STEM OPT extension program. Eligible applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship.

This position is subject to budget approval and departmental Conflict of Interest Code.
