We are looking for a motivated Enterprise Technology Analyst Journey - IT GIS to join our team. This role is ideal for someone early in their GIS career who is eager to grow, learn, and contribute to a highly technical enterprise environment. Whether you are just starting out or have a couple of years of experience, this is a great opportunity to build your skills alongside a highly experienced team that supports enterprise GIS systems Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD).

Purpose:

As part of our IT GIS team, you will help maintain, support, and improve our enterprise GIS platform, working on everything from system administration and application support to data management and integrations with other business systems. You will gain hands‑on experience with Esri technologies, enterprise databases, and cloud‑based environments, while learning best practices in security, performance, and system reliability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support for the enterprise GIS platform, including ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Pro, and related applications
  • Assist with system administration tasks such as user management, service publishing, and performance monitoring
  • Support integration of GIS with other enterprise systems (e.g., work management, asset management, customer service tools)
  • Perform data updates, quality checks, and process automation to maintain accurate and reliable spatial data
  • Troubleshoot issues reported by business users and coordinate resolutions with the GIS team
  • Contribute to documentation, workflows, and standard operating procedures
  • Participate in testing, upgrades, and deployment of GIS applications and services
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Enterprise Systems Design:
    Design and configure various enterprise technology solutions to support business units; develop detailed designs, define user requirements, document processes, resolve integration issues, and conduct testing.
  • Enterprise Applications – Modifications and Enhancements:
    Assess, design, and implement modifications to existing applications, revise requirements, and provide technical consultation.
  • Enterprise Applications – Optimization:
    Provide support and training, troubleshoot user obstacles, and develop solutions.
  • Enterprise System Reporting:
    Produce and modify user reports, perform ad‑hoc queries, and define reporting needs.
  • Project Management – Functional/Technical Focus:
    Plan and manage internal projects, assist in procurement documentation, and coordinate technical aspects.
  • Other:
    Assist in staff orientation and training, evaluate performance, manage budget participation, and perform duties outside typical business hours as needed.
Required Education
  • High School diploma or equivalent
Required Experience Qualifications
  • At least 3+ years of progressively responsible relevant work supporting departments/business units using enterprise technology solutions in system analysis, process design, configuration, testing, documentation, and implementation.
Knowledge Of
  • Enterprise application systems design, configuration, and functionality; implementation strategies; system development lifecycle; data modeling, SQL, scripting, report design, data maintenance, and retrieval.
  • Moderately complex computer systems, electronic records, database administration, technical issue resolution, project planning, leadership, training, basic budgeting, business communication, and office software.
Skills To
  • Assess business processes, develop specifications, determine integration points, create testing criteria, troubleshoot problems, produce reports, lead projects, coordinate training, resolve technical issues, prepare reports and presentations, and communicate effectively.
Desirable Education
  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field; or equivalent hands‑on experience.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Understanding of core GIS concepts, spatial data, coordinate systems, and map services.
  • Familiarity with Esri software (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, or ArcGIS Enterprise).
  • Basic knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
  • Experience with Python scripting for GIS or process automation.
