ResponsibilitiesConsultant will provide scrum master services, supporting the implementation of SMUD’s customer technology initiatives. The contractor will apply SAFe principles to organize work, deliver technology, and enhance effective team performance. Each contractor will support up to three of SMUD’s agile teams, leading scrum teams through all team ceremonies, participating in quarterly program increment planning and ensuring delivery of high‑quality technical solutions in accordance with SMUD’s policies and standards for technology development and change management.
Contractors will also participate across the Agile community in scrum ceremonies and represent the status of efforts and health of the team.
- Scrum Master Certification
- 10 years working in Information Technology, including a minimum of three (3) years as a scrum master using Scaled Agile Framework – SAFe
- Experience identifying impediments and advocating for their resolution/mitigation
- Minimum one (1) year as a Scrum Master for Agile teams, with experience facilitating daily stand‑ups, sprint planning, sprint reviews, retrospectives, and quarterly program increment planning
- Minimum three (3) years of experience and knowledge working with Atlassian JIRA and Align work management tools
- Experience creating and managing Agile team backlog, sprint plans, roadmaps, and productivity reporting within the work management tools
- Experience coordinating and linking test cases and test results with development of user stories and tasks
- Experience promoting and supporting Agile principles and practices across the organization
- Experience removing impediments and shielding the team from external distractions to ensure uninterrupted progress
- Experience collaborating with Product Owners to manage backlogs and assist with user story refinement
- Experience tracking and communicating team progress, metrics, and performance to stakeholders
- Experience facilitating continuous improvement efforts and supporting team development and coaching
- Experience coordinating with other Scrum Masters and Agile coaches to foster organizational Agile maturity
- Experience assisting in risk identification and mitigation throughout the project lifecycle
- Experience fostering a culture of collaboration, transparency, and accountability within teams
- Utility (electric, water, or gas) environment, company, or sector experience
- Strong understanding of Agile frameworks including Scrum, Kanban, and Lean methodologies and development best practices
- Strong facilitation, coaching, and communication skills
- Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Proven experience as a Scrum Master working in Agile software development environments
- Relevant certification such as Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM), or equivalent
- Ability to work with cross‑functional teams and influence without authority
