Job Description and DutiesUnder the general supervision of the Information Technology Supervisor II, the Information Technology Associate (ITA) serves as the Security Operations Associate. The ITA assists in the implementation, administration, configuration, operation, and maintenance of security technologies and processes. The incumbent helps monitor and protect technology systems and networks, identifies potential risks, and supports routine security tasks necessary for maintaining an effective security posture.
Work is performed in alignment with Department of Developmental Services policies and Statewide standards.
Effective July 1, 2025, State employees are subject to a salary reduction of three percent in exchange for five hours per month of the Personal Leave.

Working ConditionsWork is performed in an open‑office environment with partitioned work spaces. Extended use of computer systems and related technology. Availability for 24/7 on‑call and weekend support as required. Occasional travel for business‑related activities.
Under Government Code 14200, this position is a hybrid, in‑office/telework position, and may be subject to change. Incumbent can be required to report to the office, or any designated location at any time. Telework agreements can be modified and/or cancelled at any time. All commute expenses to the reporting location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
Pursuant to California Government Code requirements, candidates must be residents of the State of California at the time of appointment.
This position requires lawful authorization to work in the United States. The Department does not sponsor employment visas for this position.

- $4,935.00 - $6,614.00 for Level A
- $5,424.00 - $7,270.00 for Level B
- $5,930.00 - $7,947.00 for Level C
- $6,521.00 - $8,740.00 for Level D
New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or the minimum of an alternate range when applicable.
Special RequirementsThe Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) must be typed in 12‑point Arial font, single spaced, include one‑inch margins, and be no more than two pages in length. Applicants who fail to answer the question below or submit an SOQ may not be considered.
Describe your experience supporting Security Operations activities, including monitoring security tools, analyzing alerts or logs, performing initial triage of security incidents, and assisting with basic forensic data collection under supervision. Include specific tools or methods you used, your role in incident handling, and how your work contributed to improving security processes.

Knowledge of core security operations tools and processes, including monitoring and triaging alerts within platforms such as Cortex XDR, Microsoft SIEM/Sentinel, Proofpoint, and Service Now; vulnerability management;
Tenable One; asset tracking to support security controls and basic configuration and access‑control hygiene; cloud environments such as AWS and the ability to support forensic data collection, risk and compliance documentation, and security runbook development; project coordination, maintaining accurate asset inventories, and support physical security tasks such as badge administration.
