The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is seeking a highly experienced technical architect to lead digital modernization for one of the state’s most widely used public service platforms. Aboutthe Role
As the DL/ Architect for the DMV’s Digital Experience Platform (DxP) modernization program, you will shape enterprise‑level architecture, guide technical decision‑making, and drive the evolution of mission‑critical digital systems. Your work will directly influence how Californians access driver license and identification services online.
What You’ll Do- Lead enterprise architecture strategy and design for the DMV’s DxP DL/ initiatives
- Develop modern, scalable software architectures and establish technical standards
- Guide system and platform integration across statewide digital service channels
- Translate complex business requirements into actionable, scalable technical designs
- Create clear documentation to align both technical teams and business stakeholders
- Support configuration, testing, implementation, and ongoing administration of DxP systems
- Contribute to work streams spanning enterprise architecture, software design, integration, development, and product management
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, computer science, engineering, or a related field
- Extensive experience delivering solutions on Salesforce (Apex, Lightning, data modeling, integration patterns)
- Ability to translate business strategy into clear technical direction and create alignment artifacts (capability maps, value streams, customer journeys)
- Strong understanding of enterprise architecture frameworks and experience applying them in large-scale modernization efforts
- Familiarity with business process modeling tools and the ability to map complex end‑to‑end system interactions
- Exceptional analytical, creative problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
- Ability to operate effectively in fast-paced environments while maintaining architectural governance
- Experience with project management methodologies and organizational change management principles
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for diverse stakeholder engagement
- Ability to serve as both a strategic partner and technical expert
- Experience evaluating architectural tradeoffs in performance, scalability, reliability, security, and supportability
- Background in modernizing legacy systems and migrating data, integrations, and functionality to cloud platforms
