Specialist, Logistics

Ensures the secure and timely transport of donor cells and drug products between Orca Bio’s manufacturing sites and transplant centers. Grants real-time coordination of active courier runs, disruption response, chain‑of‑custody documentation, vein‑to‑vein KPI tracking, and partners closely with internal stakeholders and external donor and recipient organizations. Provides backup coverage for packaging operations during surge periods, works independently in a fast‑paced environment.

Hours

Night Shift:

  • 6:00pm to 6:30am
  • 6:30pm to 7:00am

Day Shift:

  • 6:00am to 6:30pm
  • 6:30am to 7:00pm

Work week schedule:

  • Sunday, Monday, Tuesday + every other Wednesday
  • Thursday, Friday, Saturday + every other Wednesday
Physical Demands
  • Must have visual acuity 20/20 (corrected or uncorrected) and normal color vision for visual inspection tasks.
  • Must meet cleanroom gowning requirements; full gowning for extended periods; cosmetics, jewelry, piercings not permitted.
Work Conditions
  • Work at Orca Bio Sacramento location (3400 Business Dr. or 7910 Metro Air Pkwy) and attend video meetings; may work overtime, weekends, or holidays.
Essential Duties &

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide live tracking of courier flights throughout active runs.
  • Monitor weather and emergency events; adjust plans proactively.
  • Maintain daily communication with Orca Porters; resolve delays or issues in real time.
  • Participate in on‑call coverage during active courier transports.
  • Rebook delayed flights and hotels; re‑issue itineraries and TSA letters; triage with manufacturing and scheduling.
  • Manage NMDP delays and negotiate itineraries; lead courier incident management.
  • Communicate changes urgently to impacted stakeholders.
  • Upload chain‑of‑custody and NMDP records; verify temperature data; track return of materials.
  • Update delivery times in Orca Link; capture vein‑to‑vein times for KPI reporting; ensure compliance.
  • Schedule couriers for donor cell pickups and deliveries; coordinate outbound drug shipments.
  • Manage flight and travel logistics; liaise with airlines and travel providers.
  • Lead third‑party courier implementation; troubleshoot transportation issues.
  • Review and approve courier invoices; track and optimize performance.
  • Conduct commercial site feasibility assessments; support dry‑run paperwork.
  • Partner with schedulers and case managers to troubleshoot non‑routine issues.
  • Serve as cross‑trained backup for night packaging operations; handle related tasks.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve logistics workflows; contribute to training materials.
  • Assist with additional logistics and operations projects.
Minimum Experience, Education, Certifications, Licenses
  • Bachelors degree and 2–3 years of logistics experience; B.S. in biology, life sciences, or logistics preferred.
  • Proven success in logistics coordination, preferably in a regulated environment.
  • Knowledge of biological materials transportation regulations (plus).
  • Proficiency in logistics tracking systems or software.
Preferred Experience
  • Courier coordination in fast‑paced, time‑sensitive industries (healthcare, biotech).
  • Experience with regulated materials, chain‑of‑custody, IATA or DOT compliance.
  • Real‑time problem‑solving during transport disruptions.
  • Vendor and third‑party courier relationship management.
  • Continuous improvement initiatives, workflow scaling, SOP development.
  • Experience with logistics tools: shipment tracking, Google Workspace, Smartsheet, etc.
  • Prior dispatcher experience.

Salary and Benefits

$60,000‑$90,000 a year (based on experience, location, equity, and market). Full‑time employment includes pre‑IPO equity, annual bonus, medical, dental, vision, PTO, 401(k), life, accidental death, disability, parental leave, and subsidized lunches/snacks at on‑site locations.
