The primary function of the Equipment Technician II is to provide technical and advisory support for engineering laboratory equipment and student/faculty research projects and assist with demonstration equipment.
Under the general supervision of the supervising Equipment Technician III, the incumbent uses independent knowledge and experience to prepare laboratories for instruction, including equipment installation, maintenance, minor repair, and modification, employing a comprehensive knowledge of both scientific and technical principles.
This position provides laboratory preparation, equipment repair, modification, design, fabrication, and installation support services on complex and highly technical engineering-related equipment and systems in the College of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS), and provides direct technical support to student activity groups within the college.
The incumbent designs equipment from oral directions or discussions of needed functions, develops unique equipment to assist students and faculty, develops experimental models and systems, and performs highly skilled repairs on factory-built or prototype equipment. The incumbent acts as a resource to faculty and students in developing equipment capability for research, develops models to demonstrate engineering principles, and develops plans, specifications, and construction drawings.
The incumbent also advises on suitable makes/models and adapts donated or one-of-a-kind equipment for instructional use. The role involves independent judgment and a high level of service quality for ECS operations.

$4,422 per month - $5,837 per month, commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

Minimum QualificationsKnowledge and Abilities:
For Equipment Technician II and Supervising Equipment Technician II, thorough knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in construction, installation, maintenance, repair and operation of equipment in the area of specialization; knowledge of repair and maintenance of tools and shop equipment; working knowledge of design and drafting procedures.
Ability to perform complex troubleshooting; ability to design, fabricate, modify, and repair technical equipment; ability to analyze problems and determine repairs; ability to install, place, and maintain equipment; ability to read and write at an appropriate level; arithmetic skills as required.
