Job Description
This role helps to foster self‑reliance, care for the poor and the needy, and provide opportunities for giving and service by helping members become economically and emotionally self‑reliant; providing access to essential food and clothing items; helping members prepare for and respond to disasters; and providing humanitarian aid to relieve suffering. The Store Manager facilitates the direction and implementation of service plans associated with Deseret Industries stores and their partnerships with local priesthood leaders.
The partnership drives a greater focus on caring for the poor and needy, fostering self‑reliance for trainees, and encouraging service to others (volunteers, service missionaries, etc.). He/she manages and develops leadership talent, executes proven operational processes and strategies, models professional behavior and communication with priesthood and Relief Society leaders, assists the rehabilitation team to identify and establish local business networks for outplacement opportunities for trainees, and leverages other operational support teams (Fleet Services, Marketing, Merchandising, Project and Construction Management, Safety, Human Resources, etc.)
to refine service plan execution and profitability. The store manager seeks and accepts ownership and accountability for Total Budgeted Operations (TBO), quality and quantity of trainee out placements, and the leadership of a management team built to drive organizational competence, integrity, and resourcefulness.
- 30% – Core Leadership
Activities:
Provide overall leadership and direction for all areas of a store. Communicate and model vision, mission, and values of Deseret Industries. Develop and update annual store service plan and operational budget. Partner with Regional Manager on store operations. - 20% – Development:
Work with the Development and Employment teams in council in development activities in the store. Partner with development staff, ERS staff and priesthood leaders. Ensure all Associates have appropriate work plans, assessments, and background checks. Monitor Associate progress. - 20% – Financial Management:
Ensure fiscal responsibility. Provide input to Regional Manager/Controller on store financial projections (operational budgets, net income, anticipated capital expenditures, etc.). Review and evaluate daily, monthly and annual management summary reports. Analyze store business trends and assess capabilities to optimize sales and minimize costs. - 15% – Retail Merchandising:
Prepare and achieve plan for store sales according to operational budget. Manage operational store standards including merchandising and customer services for entire sales floor. Ensure daily store recovery. Manage store pricing strategy. - 15% – Donation Processing:
Ensure proper supervision of donation center and corresponding customer service activities. Monitor and evaluate sort processing and pricing procedures. Oversee appropriate and timely flow of merchandise to sales floor. Ensure safe and practical disposition of non‑merchandise items (refuse, high‑risk objects such as chemicals, ammunition, etc.).
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Retail Management, Rehabilitation or similar field.
- Ten years of work experience related to retail management, general business, processing or rehabilitation.
- Three years of experience supervising in a P/L setting with exposure to performance evaluation and resource/budget allocations.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively, professionally in written and verbal formats; proficiency with Microsoft Suite applications, particularly Excel.
- Proven capacity to exercise sound judgment relative to business, people decisions; ability to thrive in a multi‑tasking environment.
- Possess physical capabilities of lifting at least 30 lbs on an occasional basis.
- Available for relocation assignments based upon organizational drivers/needs.
- Ability to work Monday–Saturday for morning, afternoon and evening shifts.
