Overview

The AN1 Service Line Support Nurse provides administrative coordination, support, and resource management to specific surgical specialties to which the RN is assigned. The AN1 Support RN is a registered nurse with advanced skills and knowledge who works in collaboration with other members of the surgical team to ensure efficient throughput of the service line and department. The AN1 Support RN uses their clinical knowledge to act as a mentor, preceptor, and resource for clinical and non-clinical members of the surgical team, completes administrative tasks associated with maintaining a well-functioning unit, and organizes tasks to manage multiple high-priority duties, bringing all available resources to the unit for the purpose of surgical patient care for their area of oversight.

They act as a conduit between the perioperative team, anesthesia providers, surgeons, and others to provide excellent surgical care to patients and families. They also contribute to building a positive work culture aligned with the organization’s mission and vision, ensuring staff competency, and supporting staff performance improvement and administrative coordination within the surgical team.

They serve as the clinical subject matter expert for a cluster of surgical specialties and assist surgical leaders with nursing oversight, administrative coordination, and direct guidance of staff assigned to those specialties. Reporting to the Service Line Manager and working closely with the surgical team, the AN I Service Line Lead facilitates the smooth operation of the surgical specialties, acts as a mentor, preceptor, and clinical resource for clinical, non-clinical, and support staff, and provides advanced consultation to other units and hospital staff regarding complex surgical patient care while maintaining their own perioperative clinical practice.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position:

  • Three (3) years recent scrub and circulating RN experience in a similar OR setting performing complex procedures, including one (1) year experience in assigned area.
  • Valid California Registered Nurse License without restriction
  • American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR
  • CNOR Certification within six (6) months of hire date.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Ability to utilize medical terminology appropriately.
  • Knowledge of current trends in nursing.
  • Commitment to excellence in patient care.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates accountability and professionalism.
  • Adapts to change in a positive, professional and productive manner.
  • Knowledge of legal implications in clinical practice and documentation.
  • Knowledge of performance improvement and evidence-based practice.

  • Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care, taking into consideration protective interventions, development (behavioral and physical) and physiological characteristics specific to the patients.

  • CNOR Certification upon hire
  • Masters of Science in Nursing
