Position Overview

The Nurse at Renew Recovery Center is an essential part of the multidisciplinary team, providing direct patient care and ensuring a safe, structured, and supportive clinical environment. Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, the Nurse supports recovery-based services and guides BHT’s to promote continuity of care and therapeutic consistency throughout the facility.

Required Qualifications
  • Current RN or LVN license issued by the State of California
  • At least 3 years of nursing experience, with a minimum of 2 years in substance use disorder or behavioral health settings preferred
  • Active CPR (BLS) and First Aid certification
  • Completion of required in-service trainings and annual competency assessments
  • Working knowledge of detox protocols, dual diagnosis, and withdrawal management preferred
Clinical Responsibilities
  • Provide safe and effective patient care in accordance with facility policies and clinical protocols
  • Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments, recognizing both medical and behavioral symptoms
  • Monitor and respond to detox symptoms and signs of substance intoxication
  • Administer prescribed medications using two patient identifiers; document and observe effects accurately
  • Develop and contribute to individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the treatment team
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members to support care coordination
  • Facilitate psycho educational groups and engage in patient-centered activities as assigned
  • Accurately take and transcribe physician orders; verify and clarify as needed
  • Deliver discharge planning support and patient education with appropriate documentation
  • Maintain compliance with infection control protocols, HIPAA guidelines, and facility confidentiality standards
  • Ensure accurate, legible, and timely documentation of nursing interventions and outcomes
  • Identify and report changes in patient condition to appropriate personnel
  • Utilize critical thinking and clinical judgment in crisis or emergency situations
  • Demonstrate competency in performing required nursing procedures with or without supervision
  • Ensure contraband control and contribute to the overall safety of the unit
  • Provide accurate, thorough hand-off reports to the next shift or clinical leadership
  • Assist with the admissions process, including patient orientation and initial assessments
  • Recognize and report suspected co-occurring mental health concerns
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
  • Manage the clinical unit when designated as the nurse-in-charge
  • Provide leadership and guidance to BHT’s, ensuring consistency with treatment plans
  • Make patient care assignments based on staff competencies and patient acuity
  • Serve as a resource and mentor for less experienced staff
  • Identify opportunities for improved efficiency and cost-effective care
  • Maintain awareness of medical equipment and supplies, requesting service or replacements when needed
  • Participate in ongoing quality improvement initiatives and data collection
  • Demonstrate knowledge of facility-specific policies, regulatory compliance, and safety protocols
  • Respond to emergencies and participate in disaster response procedures
  • Contribute to interdisciplinary meetings and committees, providing feedback and updates as appropriate
Other Duties
  • Attend all mandatory trainings, safety briefings, and clinical in-services
  • Uphold facility expectations for dress code, conduct, professionalism, and timeliness
  • Respect the confidentiality of patient records, staff communication, and operational matters
  • Engage in personal and professional growth through CEUs, conferences, or educational opportunities
  • Participate in unit-specific or organization-wide initiatives as requested by the Director of Nursing
  • Perform other clinical or administrative tasks as assigned
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
  • Active involvement with patients in both direct and supportive care roles
  • Must be able to walk, stand, bend, and lift up to 30 pounds with appropriate body mechanics
  • Exposure to healthcare environments including medications, sharps, infectious waste, and other hazards
  • Comfortable working in emotionally charged situations and responding to client crises
  • Must be flexible and able to manage multiple priorities or unexpected clinical needs
Attendance Requirements
  • Maintains consistent attendance and punctuality aligned with department policies
  • Avoids excessive or patterned absences, especially those around weekends and scheduled time off
  • Provides timely notice of absences and follows required call-out procedures
  • Adheres to scheduled break and meal times
  • Demonstrates attendance that supports uninterrupted patient care and departmental effectiveness
