American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a high-acuity Cardiovascular Surgical ICU position requiring at least 2 years of CVICU experience and 1 completed travel assignment.
Details- Work in a 20-bed Cardiovascular Surgical Intensive Care Unit within an acute care hospital
- High acuity unit caring for pre and fresh post-op CABG patients (goal extubation within 6 hours), LVADs, Empallas, IABP, TAVRs, CRRT, and patients on critical drips with Swan monitoring
- Patient ratios of 1:1 to 1:2
- Uses Cerner EMR
- 12-hour night shifts, with days starting at 0545 and nights at 1745
- Every other weekend required
- Rotates holiday coverage with core staff
- First to float among staff, primarily to MSNICU (neuro experience preferred) and other Sacramento-area facilities
- Charge nurse generally does not take patients but provides break relief
- Nurse aides available as census and staffing dictate
- 24/7 in-house Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy support, with Hospitalist or Intensivist coverage
- Self-scheduling used, with schedules released 4 weeks out
- Floor-specific orientation includes 1-2 days with a preceptor
- Active CA RN license required (pending licenses not accepted)
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 full years of CVICU experience required
- Must have completed at least 1 previous travel assignment
- Must be able to read and interpret EKG strips (telemetry)
- Experience with ventilators required
- Must pass a Dysrhythmia exam through UNA prior to contract signing (pass/fail, 2 attempts to score 80%, with screenshot of attempts required)
- Must pass a sterile technique test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on first day of orientation
- 2 professional references required: 1 supervisor reference within the last 12 months worked and 1 peer or supervisor reference within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
- Provide direct patient care in a very high-acuity CVICU, including CABG recovery, IABP, and CRRT management, with skill validation by core staff
- Travelers will not be assigned LVAD patients; IABP patients are not 1:1
- Must be proactive and confident in asking for help when needed, and must work all assigned cases without special accommodations
- Navy scrub color required, with undershirts in navy, white, or black; navy scrub jackets optional
- Report is given at the bedside
- Overtime and extra shifts are available, and travelers can view schedules and pick up shifts from home
- Mid-shift floating to another facility is rare but possible
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any Common Spirit-associated facility, including CHI and Dignity, within the past year; PRN employment through outside staffing firms will be considered
- Failure of the second attempt on the Dysrhythmia or sterile technique exams results in do-not-use status for 6 months with Common Spirit Sacramento region and Arizona facilities
