Job Description and Duties
The Wildlife Diversity Program, in the California Department of Fish and Wildlife's Wildlife Branch, is looking for an Environmental Services Intern to join our team of dedicated wildlife professionals as it strives to monitor and manage California's bobcat population. This a great opportunity to learn or improve an array of skills such as collecting field data with cameras, conducting scat surveys, processing samples, classifying trail camera images, managing data, and managing equipment.
We are hoping to find a hard-working new team member with a passion for studying and conserving California's bobcats and other wildlife who enjoys working as part of a small, close-knit team. This position will be headquartered in West Sacramento and our intent is for the position to start as early as mid-March. Driving state vehicles is an essential part of the job;
a valid driver's license is required.

The Environmental Services Intern classification is a non-testing classification.
The language below is required for these NT classifications.
* Applicants who receive public assistance under the CalWORKs program shall be given hiring priority consideration as provided in Government Code, Section 19063.

Working Conditions
This position may require extensive time in the field driving on dirt roads, using 4WD drive vehicles and ATVs, and hiking in steep and rugged terrain under adverse weather conditions. Position requires ability to lift 40 pounds, as well as physical strength and agility to hike with a backpack and/or other gear. The position may require irregular work hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Overnight travel and camping may sometimes be required. This position regularly requires the use of a computer for several hours at a time in the office. Periods of sitting, standing, and walking in the office are required. A valid driver's license is required to operate state vehicles. This position may be required to sometimes wear a uniform.

Special Requirements
Possession of valid Driver License. Ability to drive for up to 8 hours. Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions, operate 4WD vehicles, wade in streams, and walk over uneven outdoor terrain carrying a 40-pound backpack for up to 6 hours. Camping and/or overnight travel may be required. Working at night may be required.
