Our current team at VPE Thermal is offering an opportunity for an experienced Quality Manager to become a part of our growing team! The heat exchangers need to be compliant with ISO 9001, ASME, PED, CRN, and other customer specific requirements. You will be required to support cross-functional departments from design to product realization and deepen the skills of our quality team.
- You will be responsible for overseeing quality assurance, quality control and inspection of fabrication operations for heat-exchangers in Sacramento, California.
- Further implement and manage the company Quality Management System (QMS), overseeing both quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) as areas of opportunities/improvement are identified.
- Oversee, motivate, mentor and evaluate the Quality and Inspection Departments for the purposes of developing skills, knowledge, and abilities in; incoming, in-process and final inspection techniques, inspection tools, report writing, NC processing, and root cause analysis to prevent reoccurrence.
- Conduct Material Review Board (MRB) meetings and serve on the MRB to determine root cause and nonconformance resolutions.
- Qualify the quality systems of suppliers and subcontractors.
- Identify and manage third-party inspection subcontractors.
- Responsible for continuous improvement in efforts in implementation of ISO 9001 in compliance with ASME, PED, CRN and other customer/regulatory requirements.
- Oversee Document Control in the development and implementation of product quality dossiers.
- Collaborate with Production Management to further implement quality objectives such as dimensional and visual inspections, meeting test requirements penetrant, helium leak, and hydro testing.
- Represent the organization in customer, third-party, and registrar audits and coordinate audit finding responses.
- Maintain and develop ASME “U” stamps and the NBIC “R” stamp certification programs.
- Oversee welding and NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) procedures, including welder qualifications.
- Maintain welding records, including PQR, WPQ, and WPS documentation.
- Serve as the company’s quality representative to ASME, AWS, NBI, and other regulatory agencies.
- Conduct welder training, qualifications, and internal quality inspections.
- Assist other department heads in QMS compliance training.
- Prior experience working in ISO 9001 or similar quality management system.
- Minimum three years’ experience in a management position where you are motivating, hiring, terminating, evaluating, and developing your direct reports.
- Experience in writing procedures and work instructions.
- Strong basic metrology skills and the ability to teach others, proficient with precision measuring tools.
- Ability to present to internal and external parties.
- SCWI or CWI Level II certification preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience working in a CWI or similar role.
- Engineering degree or equivalent experience in welding/manufacturing disciplines.
- In-depth knowledge of PT, VT, and UT inspections.
- Advanced ability to interpret technical drawings, GD&T, and welding/machining standards.
- Strong background in welding processes and manufacturing practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other scheduling/QA software.
- Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
Experience:
- Previous experience in welding qualifications including PQR, WPQ, and WPS.
- Previous experience in NDE qualifications including;
Penetrant Testing, Ultrasonic Thickness Testing, and Visual Testing of weldments. - Understanding of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes.
- Calm under pressure and capable of leading during challenging situations.
- Ability to work independently and build quality systems from the ground up.
Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field OR relevant experience with equivalent qualifications.
- Five years’ experience in the Quality Department in an industrial manufacturing environment.
