Staff Archaeologist
Build your archaeology career with purpose, variety, and momentum. HELIX Environmental Planning is seeking a Staff Archaeologist to join our Nor Cal Cultural Resources team. This Staff Archaeologist role is ideal for a motivated professional who thrives in both field and office settings and wants hands-on experience supporting complex cultural resource projects across Northern and Central California.

As a Staff Archaeologist, you'll work alongside respected senior cultural resources professionals while contributing to projects that comply with CEQA, Section 106, and other regulatory frameworks. A Staff Archaeologist at HELIX balances dynamic fieldwork with analytical office tasks. One week you may be leading or supporting field surveys in the Central Valley or Bay Area; another week you may be completing CHRIS records searches, drafting DPR forms, or assisting with focused report writing. This Staff Archaeologist position offers variety, responsibility, and the chance to deepen your technical expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct and support archaeological surveys and construction monitoring
- Complete CHRIS records searches and historic map/aerial analyses
- Prepare DPR site records and update forms using GPS data, photos, and field notes
- Assist with cultural resources technical reports and study summaries
- Coordinate Native American tribal outreach under senior staff guidance
- Deliver Worker Environmental Awareness Trainings focused on cultural sensitivity
Work Location & Schedule
- In-office position with frequent field assignments
- Fieldwork may require multi-day or multi-week travel to remote locations
- Projects primarily in Northern and Central California
Pay
- $30–$36 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
