Department Information: California’s Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (Cal Recycle) brings together the state’s recycling and waste management programs to move the state toward a circular economy that reduces waste and reuses all materials.
Job Description and DutiesUnder the direct supervision of the Environmental Program Manager I (Supervisory), the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory) will oversee the Textiles Unit.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide first‑line supervision for Environmental Scientist staff.
- Apply principles of scientific research, physical and environmental sciences, statistical methods, and integrated waste management.
- Assess compliance with the Responsible Textile Recovery Act of 2024.
- Oversee staff determinations of violations and their impact on public health, safety, and environmental justice.
- Provide training, mentoring, and technical expertise to staff.
- Review findings and reports for technical adequacy and ensure accurate entry into the Department’s databases.
- Develop and implement new enforcement programs related to extended producer responsibility and product stewardship.
- Prepare and review environmental documents and develop regulations to enforce state minimum standards.
- Consult with other agencies and institutions engaged in related regulation and investigations.
- Travel throughout California as required, including consecutive days away from the office and overnight stays.
Must possess a current California Driver’s License and participate in the DMV Employer Pull Notice Program.
Special Requirements- Valid California Driver’s License (CDL) required; provide CDL number, class, expiration date, and endorsements/restrictions.
- Maintain a good driving record.
