New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
Under the general direction of the Chief of the Biological Studies, and an Environmental Program Manager I, coordinates and negotiates with state and federal environmental agencies regarding wildlife species and protected animal species; provides guidance, direction, and expertise on endangered species regulations; assists district environmental units in determining appropriate and cost-effective mitigation measures; coordinates the statewide identification and resolution of wildlife passage issues through transportation rights of way;
negotiates project approvals and permits related to biological resources; serves as an in-house expert on the most difficult and complex wildlife and endangered species management and assessment issues; and acts as an advisor and technical backup to the Chief.
Location:
1120 N St, Sacramento, Sacramento County. The position may be eligible for telework at the Department's discretion based on Caltrans policy. In-person attendance may be required. Travel to district offices, meeting facilities, and project sites may be necessary. In the field, conditions may be loud, dusty, and rugged; climate can vary. At the base of operation, work is in a climate-controlled office, with possible temperature fluctuations due to building systems.

- Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a State owned or leased vehicle.
- Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required. Failure to submit SOQ will disqualify candidates from the hiring process.
