Role Description

Arcadis is the world's leading company delivering sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets.

Arcadis is seeking a junior-level Biologist/Ecologist/Environmental Scientist to join our Enviro Socio Permitting team primarily serving northern California and southern Oregon.

The successful candidate will conduct desktop reviews and support field data collection for wetlands delineations, special‑status species habitat assessments, and environmental assessments. This role will primarily support Arcadis’s planning and permitting team working with linear infrastructure clients in California. Projects are often fast‑paced, multi‑faceted, and geographically diverse.

Arcadis offers a flexible hybrid work environment; you may work remotely or in the office as needed.

Role Accountabilities
  • Conduct desktop assessments and field surveys (e.g., habitat evaluations and presence/absence surveys) to evaluate potential project impacts to sensitive habitats or special‑status species.
  • Prepare technical reports such as species survey reports, mitigation and monitoring plans, and biological assessments.
  • Use technical writing and communication skills to draft project documents and support the development of technical analysis, comprehensive reports, and documents under the direction of mid and senior level team members.
  • Apply knowledge of California ecology and special‑status species to analyze presence or absence of resources and to determine how to avoid and minimize impacts to sensitive resources.

This role will primarily be office based; however, as needed, it requires field assessments related to ecological projects, including fieldwork for long hours and carrying supplies weighing up to 30 pounds. The position requires the ability to travel up to 25%.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, ecology, botany, or other natural resource related field.
  • One year of experience in the environmental field or advanced degree in environmental science or similar.
  • Knowledge of California ecology and habitats, special‑status plants and/or wildlife and/or botanical knowledge.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of experience in the environmental consulting industry.
  • Experience using online agency databases and mapping tools, such as Google Earth, CNDDB, ORBIC, or other datasets; familiarity with ArcGIS Pro and development of figures.
  • Experience conducting field surveys with a focus on the species of northern California and Oregon and/or experience conducting stream and wetland delineations with strong field safety protocols.
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive reports/permit applications and working with federal land management agencies (BLM, USFS, NPS, etc.).
  • Experience with linear construction projects (e.g., utility projects, pipeline projects, etc.).
Salary

The salary range for this position is $69,984–$104,976.

Benefits
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage;
  • EAP, 401K, STD, LTD, AD&D, life insurance;

  • Adoption assistance and tuition reimbursement;
  • Nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year.
