Supervisory Interdisciplinary

Duties

• Serves as a Section Chief supporting the District's Hazardous, Toxic, and Radiological Waste (HTRW) program.
• Oversees projects under various environmental programs like the EPA's National Superfund, the Department of War's Environmental Restoration Program, and other civil and military projects.
• Plans, directs, and coordinates the work of the Section; setting priorities, managing budgets, and handling all personnel-related actions such as hiring, assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, and implementing disciplinary measures.
• Ensures the technical adequacy of environmental projects, including plans, reports, and specifications.
• This involves work related to chemistry, toxicology, risk assessment, hazardous waste, water treatment, and ensuring compliance with all current environmental laws and regulations.
• Presents technical briefings on environmental projects to various stakeholders. Acts as a key advisor on matters of chemistry, toxicology, and risk assessment to military installations and different divisions within the organization.
• Promotes and enforces prescribed safety rules and regulations for the team.
• This includes ensuring the use of proper safety equipment, conducting safety meetings, and making sure that both employees and contractors adhere to all safety protocols on site.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Must submit upon entry and annually a Financial Disclosure Agreement (See Additional Information)
• Must obtain and maintain a valid state issued driver's license
• Must complete routine and special examination because of potential exposure and the significant physical stress factors that occur while wearing protection equipment.
• Must obtain and maintain certification to handle hazardous and toxic wastes.

• Degree: toxicology; or an appropriate discipline of the biological, medical, or veterinary sciences that included at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, biochemistry, or physiology, and 12 semester hours in toxicology.

  Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in the physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.
