Salary Range: $25 to $32 hourly depending on experience
Position Summary
Sonsray Fleet is seeking an experienced and motivated Trailer Technician to join our Sacramento team. This position is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing trailers and related systems to ensure safe and reliable operation. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with trailer maintenance, air brake systems, electrical diagnostics, lift gates, and DOT/BIT inspections.
We are looking for a self-starter who takes pride in quality workmanship, values safety, and thrives in a fast-paced shop environment.
What You’ll Do
- Perform trailer preventive maintenance (PM), BIT inspections, and DOT inspections
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair trailer lighting and electrical systems
- Troubleshoot shorts, open circuits, and faulty electrical components
- Perform air brake system inspections and repairs, including brake overhauls, slack adjusters, relay valves, S-cams, and bushings
- Measure brake lining thickness and inspect drums, air tanks, and related components
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain lift-gate and rail systems, including hydraulic components
- Repair or replace damaged or defective trailer parts and components
- Conduct quality assurance checks to ensure trailers meet safety and operational standards
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance, inspections, and repairs performed
- Operate tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop equipment safely and effectively
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment while following all company and OSHA safety guidelines
- Collaborate with service team members to complete repairs efficiently and support dealership operations
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management
What We’re Looking For
- 2+ years of experience as a Trailer Technician or related heavy-duty repair role preferred
- Strong knowledge of trailer systems, air brakes, electrical systems, and preventive maintenance
- Experience with lift-gate, rail, or hydraulic systems highly preferred
- Familiarity with DOT, BIT, and PM inspection requirements
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues efficiently
- Experience using diagnostic tools and repair equipment
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Vocational training, certifications, or apprenticeship experience is a plus
- Valid driver’s license preferred
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physical labor throughout the workday
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crouch, and crawl for extended periods
- Ability to work in varying weather and shop conditions
- Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
