Overview
Court Appointed Special Advocates of Sacramento (CASA Sacramento) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that trains volunteers to work with children who have been removed from their homes due to allegations of abuse and neglect. Advocates become personnel of the court, mentors and advocates for children in the Sacramento County juvenile dependency system.
QualificationsA minimum commitment of 18 months and 10‑15 hours a month is required. Applicants must be at least 21 years old. Training, background check, and references are required. Male volunteers and bilingual volunteers especially needed.
ResponsibilitiesAs a CASA, you will work one‑on‑one with a child, advocating on their behalf in the juvenile court and assisting them in obtaining all necessary services while they are dependents in the foster care system. With the extension of foster care until age 21, we also match advocates with young adults who are transitioning out of foster care and welcome the support of a caring adult.
Opportunities exist to advocate for older youth, juvenile justice‑involved youth, and siblings.
