Position: Youth Advocate, Woodland (Yolo Community Based Family Services)

Qualifications

  • Minimum of High School Diploma or GED - required
  • Experience as a youth with a serious emotional disturbance receiving, or having previously received, services within child welfare, foster care, mental health, or the juvenile justice system - required
  • Basic knowledge of Public Mental Health/Child Welfare/Education systems, and the ability to advocate on behalf of clients in navigating and negotiating those systems
  • Previous experience with advocacy, outreach, and community resources preferred
  • Spanish Speaking - preferred
Youth Advocate Levels
  • Youth Advocate I:
    Meets minimum qualifications listed above.
  • Youth Advocate II:
    Meets all minimum qualifications for Youth Advocate I and has:
    Has obtained Peer Specialist Certification;
    Has a minimum of 1 year experience as a Peer Advocate
  • Youth Advocate III:
    Meets all qualifications for Youth Advocate II and: demonstrates proficiency and expertise in the role; has a minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Peer Advocate
Essential Job Functions Position Specific
  • Youth Advocate I & II:
    Program Intake – ensure youth are aware of how to access advocacy and support services
  • Coaching and mentoring – educate youth to acquire communication, system navigation, and self-regulation skills
  • Outreach – participate in Child and Family Team meetings, assess strengths and challenges, provide parenting support, link to community resources
  • Family and Youth Partnership Wellness and Position Specific Groups – participate in peer-to-peer connection, wellness groups, and other related groups
  • Mutual Support and Education Groups – provide ongoing education and support to families
  • Participation in Agency Wide Program Meetings, Family Team Meetings, and Management Decisions – contribute youth perspectives
  • Staff Consultation and Training – provide feedback on youth voice and cultural sensitivity in treatment planning
  • Participation in Hiring Process – assist in interviewing potential employees with focus on youth voice and choice
  • Community Advocacy – participate in trainings, work groups, and policy development
  • Grievance and Complaint support – mentor and assist youth and caregivers with the process
  • Collateral Support – provide collateral support to youth as assigned
  • Youth Advocate III:
    Perfroms essential functions of I/II and: coaches internal staff; attends leadership meetings; leads trainings and initiatives
Agency Specific
  • Adhere to agency ethics, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Model positive attitudes toward the agency’s Mission, Vision, and Values
  • Collaborate with all programs and staff to provide support as needed
  • Maintain calendar and manage time effectively; share calendar with coworkers
  • Participate in ongoing training to develop professional skills
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Compensation

This position may be filled at any level listed in this posting. Level determination is based on the role’s minimum qualifications and the candidate’s directly relevant experience and scope of responsibility. The posted salary bands represent the full pay range for each role and reflect opportunities for compensation growth over time. The typical hiring ranges reflect where we reasonably expect to make offers to new hires based on relevant experience, qualifications, and internal equity.

Level I:
Typical hiring range: $22.00 – $26.00 per hour;
Full salary band: $22.00 – $32.00 per hour

Level II:
Typical hiring range: $24.00 – $28.00 per hour;
Full salary band: $24.00 – $34.00 per hour

Level III:
Typical hiring range: $26.00 – $31.00 per hour;
Full salary band: $26.00 – $36.00 per hour
