Dependent on years of school social worker experience and certification

Salary starting at $49,044

CERTIFICATION:
  • School Social Worker Certificate or Registration, required
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with Special Education Endorsement, preferred
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Effectively demonstrates facilitation skills, leadership skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with administrators, teachers, students, and staff
  • Experience and/or training in utilizing academic interventions and supporting students who have IEP's
  • Extensive experience working with youth, families, and community organizations
  • Experience in the development and facilitation of professional development
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment supporting anti-bias and anti-racist practices
  • Experience supporting restorative practices
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Coordinate student culture processes including Restorative Practices, PBIS, and Leader In Me
  • Coordinate IEP plans
  • Conduct social-emotional, adaptive behavior, and developmental assessments as part of special education eligibility evaluations
  • Complete social/developmental histories through parent/guardian interviews
  • Observe students in classroom, lunchroom, and other school settings to inform eligibility and programming decisions
  • Contribute social work data to Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) reports
  • Participate as a required or invited member of IEP teams
  • Write measurable social-emotional and behavioral goals and track progress
  • Recommend and provide related services (individual/group service minutes) as specified in IEPs
  • Ensure services align with state and federal special education law (IDEA, state regulations) and timelines
  • Provide individual and group services to students with disabilities to address social skills, emotional regulation, self-advocacy, and coping strategies
  • Support crisis intervention and de-escalation for students with significant behavioral or emotional needs
  • Facilitate transition planning support (school-to-school, grade-to-grade, or post-secondary) for students with IEPs
  • Deliver social skills instruction aligned to IEP goals (individually or in small groups)
  • Assist in developing Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)
  • Collaborate with teachers on classroom-based behavior supports and de-escalation strategies
  • Monitor and document behavioral progress data for IEP review
  • Support students with chronic discipline issues; monitor and identify attendance issues; meet with parents to help rectify these issues
  • Seek outside counseling support for students and families.
