To perform regular lifeguard duties and assist in the supervision of pool staff in the organizing and instructing of aquatics classes and activities; to assume full responsibility of aquatic facility in absence of an Assistant Pool Manager or Pool Manager.
Supervision Received and ExercisedResponsibilities may include the indirect supervision of lower level aquatic personnel. Direct supervision is provided by the Assistant Pool Manager or Pool Manager.
Typical Duties- Maintain constant surveillance to safeguard swimmers from drowning and other accidents.
- Rescue and resuscitate drowning persons.
- Rescue and aid persons affected by life threatening injuries.
- Render care in the latest American Red Cross techniques in water safety, lifeguarding, first aid, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (C.P.R.) to persons in need of assistance.
- Direct, instruct, and assist in the supervision of water oriented classes such as swim lessons, swim team, junior guard and water aerobics.
- Enforce facility rules, regulations, and procedures; take appropriate action to prevent dangerous situations and accidents.
- Assist in the maintenance of the aquatic facility including its building, grounds, and equipment.
- Write and prepare lesson plans, assist in the planning, promoting, and organizing of aquatic programs.
- Maintain records and reports.
- Perform the duties of the Pool Manager in their absence.
- Perform related duties as assigned.

- Instruct students in a variety of aquatic oriented skill level classes.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with other employees and the public.
- Follow oral and written instructions.
- Prepare, read, and write various reports.
- Interpret policies and procedures.
Education: None required.
Experience: One season or 2.5 months of experience at an aquatic facility as a lifeguard or swim instructor.
Special QualificationsAge: Must be 16 years of age at time of appointment.
Certification: Possession of a current course completion certificate as required by current Federal, State, and Local law.
- Completion of American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR and AED certification by time of appointment.
Proof of the required certificate and/or license should be submitted with your application and will be required at the time of appointment. Unofficial documents and/or copies are acceptable.
Assessments- Pass a physical, criminal background check, and drug test.
- Must successfully complete and pass a tuberculosis screening test. Completion of the Hepatitis B vaccination series is desirable.
This position is designated as a Mandatory Reporter; completion of Mandatory Reporter training is required within two weeks of appointment.

Physical Requirements: Must have the ability to walk, start, and stop frequently; run and swim frequently; perform simple and power grasping; verbal and hearing skills to effectively communicate with participants and staff; visual acuity to read and record documents and make observations. Must be able to spend prolonged periods of time in pool water; must maintain the physical ability required to pass the American Red Cross Lifeguard certification;
intermittently, lift, carry or move equipment of 20 pounds or less.
