Job SummaryUnder the general direction of the Office Chief of Commercial Vehicle Operations, a Supervising Transportation Engineer (Manager) will serve as a functional manager of the Transportation Permits Issuance Branch (TPIB). Responsibilities include day‑to‑day operations of the TPIB, managing all annual transportation permits, and liaison activities with districts related to route clearance restrictions. Position may be eligible for telework at the discretion of the Department;
in‑person attendance may be required depending on operational needs.
- Eligibility via Senior Transportation Engineer, Caltrans examination.
- Current civil engineer registration issued by California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) submitted per instructions.
- Supervisory experience and skills to lead others effectively.
- Experience developing and maintaining partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience supporting and advising engineers on planning, design, commission, operations, and asset management of transportation systems.
- Ability to make critical, appropriate, and timely decisions.
