Position: Construction Coordinator I

Construction Coordinator I – A role focused on coordinating and inspecting construction projects to ensure compliance with company standards, safety regulations and project specifications. The position oversees contractor work, collaborates with external vendors and government agencies, and manages project documentation and budget tracking.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect utility construction projects to ensure compliance with construction guidelines and company standards.
  • Oversee all phases of construction, including trenching, directional boring, conduit installation and aerial cable installations.
  • Coordinate with private engineers, city engineers, maintenance personnel, utility representatives, underground and aerial contractors, and other government entities.
  • Attend planning and pre‑construction meetings with municipalities and vendors to review utility projects.
  • Facilitate timely completion of projects through coordination with internal and external resources.
  • Oversee timely permitting submittal and ensure on‑time performance of engineering and construction vendors.
  • Maintain records of ongoing construction for as‑built references, pay request approval and plan verification.
  • Analyze job requirements and project proposals to estimate bill of materials required to complete tasks.
  • Make field adjustments and redesign decisions to resolve problems or conflicts; authorize change orders when necessary.
  • Respond to questions, concerns and complaints regarding utility construction projects.
  • Review and comment on design plans and specifications prior to bidding; initiate bid process including budgetary requirements and tracking.
  • Oversee procurement of necessary equipment and materials related to assigned projects.
  • Verify and update project documentation and track project progress and budget using software applications such as Sitetracker.
  • Survey job sites while ensuring all safety measures are observed to protect associates, contractors, the general public and property.
  • Delegate responsibilities to ensure safety, quality and productivity targets are met.
  • Complete other duties as assigned in accordance with legal guidelines and reasonable accommodation policies.
Qualifications
  • Experience organizing and coordinating large construction projects.
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, equipment and safety hazards for construction projects.
  • Experience managing project budgets and maintaining records; monitoring contract workers.
  • Proven negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state and city laws, ordinances, codes and regulations.
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) and National Electrical Safety Code (NESC).
  • Knowledge of construction principles and cost accounting principles for projects.
  • Knowledge of construction inspection principles and techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, architectural and engineering drawings.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Passion for the work and commitment to the company’s mission.
  • Willingness to work day, evening or night schedules, overtime, emergency call‑outs, weekends and out‑of‑town assignments as required.
