Assistant Event Coordinator (Temporary Part-time | Non-Benefit Eligible)ORGANIZATION AND AREA INFORMATION: Nestled in the central part of Southeast Arizona’s Gila Valley, the City of Safford is a thriving rural Arizona City. With a population of just over ten thousand, it is the largest municipality in Graham County. Incorporated as a town in 1901 and becoming a city in 1955, Safford has become the major hub for Southeast Arizona.
The City of Safford as an organization has multiple different departments and over 230 staff members including full-time employees, seasonal employees, volunteer firefighters and council members to staff all the different positions at the City. The City also provides all utilities for its residents and other residents in surrounding areas. In addition to the major utilities of gas, water, electric, sewer, and sanitation, the City has a landfill and airport that service the county.
SUMMARY: Under general supervision, assisting the City’s Administrative Events Liaison with peak seasonal special events and leisure services programs.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISITICS: This is single tiered position that reports directly to the Administrative Events Liaison.

- Assists with the City’s peak seasonal special events and leisure services programs from September through December.
- Assists with programming timelines and equipment and/or supplies in support of peak seasonal special events and leisure services programs.
- Promotes effective working relationships and partnerships with community groups, schools, sponsors, local businesses, media representatives and other parties with program interests and interaction.
- Provides customer service and assistance to patrons, participants, and the public; and provides information regarding event and programs services.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Experience, Certifications and Licenses:
- High School diploma or equivalent GED certificate, or equivalent experience.
- Valid State of Arizona Driver’s license.

- Skill in understanding community cultural, recreational, and social activities.
- Skill in operating computers and applicable software applications.
- Skill in following and effectively communicating verbal and written instructions.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effecting working relationships.

- Capable of working weekends and evenings in support of peak seasonal special events and leisure services programs.
- Capable of assisting with the set-up and breakdown of tentage and other related equipment in support of any event and program services.
- Work is routinely performed outside with exposure to inclement weather, and varying temperatures.
- Subject to standing (sometimes for extended periods of time), walking (sometimes long distances), bending, reaching, kneeling, and occasional lifting of objects up to 50 pounds.
