Assistant Pool Manager
The Assistant Pool Manager assists the Pool Manager with the overall daily operation of the city swimming pool and its staff.
Distinguishing CharacteristicsThis position is distinguished from the next higher level by the absence of more advanced knowledge, skills, and independent judgment. It reports directly to the Pool Manager and Administrative Events Liaison as directed.

- Assist the Pool Manager with the daily supervision and operation of the swimming pool and ensure aquatics staff are efficient and competent.
- Monitor weather reports to ensure the safety of patrons.
- Count and balance daily revenue, complete related documentation, and deposit all revenue to the City Clerk’s Office.
- Complete all facility safety checks and ensure that all safety equipment is functioning, stored, and properly maintained.
- Handle complaints made by the public in a diplomatic manner.
- Ensure all daily cleaning tasks and safety standards are completed.
- Maintain, analyze, and submit pertinent reports on daily patron admissions, revenue, sanitary water conditions, accidents/incidents, rescues, and first aid.
- Assist with employee evaluations.
- Assist with ongoing in-service trainings for all staff.
- Assist with planning, directing, and supervising both staff and volunteers in the conduct of special activities such as Theme Nights or similar activities.
- Participate in pre-season staff meetings to review duties, skills, facility operations, and staff training.
- Assist with all pre-season and mid-season skills testing of aquatics staff and ensure documentation is properly completed.
- Ensure all pool-related administrative requirements are properly completed and keep COS Management informed of pool closures, lightning, accidents, or any other questionable situations.
- Notify COS Grounds Maintenance Supervisor in case of sanitary/feces incidents, chlorine leaks, or chemical problems.
- Assist with the collection, verification, and delivery of time sheets for processing.
- Keep an accurate and up-to-date inventory of all supplies and equipment; make purchases when needed.
- Ensure the pool area is kept clean and orderly, including the office and lifeguard shack.
- Administer first aid to patrons when needed.
- Attend staff meetings and work with social and community groups.
- Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide seamless customer service.
- Demonstrate continuous effort to improve and offer diversified aquatics programs for all ages in accordance with community needs.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- One (1) year of supervisory experience preferred.
- Lifeguard experience preferred.
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED certifications preferred.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Knowledge of cash management operations and recordkeeping.
- Knowledge of principles, practices, and application of lifesaving and first aid techniques.
- Knowledge of local emergency services available.
- Knowledge of rules and regulations pertaining to pool use and their enforcement.
- Skill in performing a broad range of supervisory responsibilities over others.
- Skill in interacting with people of different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Skill in working independently with the established policies and procedures of the department.
- Skill in following and effectively communicating verbal and written instructions.
- Skill in acting quickly and calmly in emergencies.
