Description

The Human Resource Support Staff position provides administrative support to the Human Resources department through employee communication, record management, and daily office tasks. This is a part‑time position working a maximum of 28 hours per week. This entry‑level role is designed for someone who is interested in developing a career in human resources. The City of Saginaw seeks a dependable and motivated candidate with strong organizational and communication skills who is eager to learn, works well in a professional office environment, demonstrates attention to detail, a positive attitude, and a commitment to supporting employees.

Duties
  • Assist with maintaining employee files and updating information in HR systems.
  • Support recruitment activities by helping schedule interviews and preparing hiring documents.
  • Answer general employee questions and direct inquiries to the appropriate HR staff member.
  • Help organize onboarding materials and assist with new employee orientation activities.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as filing, scanning, scheduling, and preparing reports.
Job Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year of administrative or clerical experience.
  • Basic knowledge of office procedures and administrative support practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a customer‑focused approach.
  • Ability to handle confidential information responsibly and professionally.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to stay organized, manage multiple tasks, and work effectively within a team.
Working Conditions

Work is primarily performed in an office environment. The noise level is typically moderate (business office with typing and/or computer printers).

Physical Demands
  • Frequent sitting; occasional standing and walking.
  • Occasional reaching with hands and arms, gross manipulation, and fine manipulation.
  • Frequent use of a computer, keyboard, and standard office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and through written communication.
  • Vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception sufficient to perform essential job functions.
