Position Overview

Heritage High School is searching for a high school teacher with a passion for high school students and a belief in teaching the whole child. This is a dual position with split time: ½ time High School Teacher reporting to building principal and ½ time Heritage High School Athletics Director reporting to District Athletics Director.

  • Position will teach 3 periods per day.
  • Position will have 1 prep period.
  • Lunch/Dinner: 35‑minute time will be somewhat flexible (potentially established 2:45‑3:20 pm).
  • Expectation is that lunch will be eaten prior to the scheduled work day/time and the lunch/dinner time will be later in the day.
  • Position will teach periods 4B, 5B and 6th.
  • Prep period will be 7th period.
  • Teaching report times will be 10:45 am‑6:30 pm.
  • The second half of the workday will be established for AD duties.
  • Position will also continue to receive the “schedule B” High School AD stipend to compensate for activities that will be after 6:30 pm and occasionally on weekdays.
High School Athletic Director

Position Overview

The High School Athletic Director is responsible for managing and coordinating the high school athletic programs, ensuring compliance with Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) regulations and district policies. The role involves overseeing daily operations, scheduling contests, hiring officials, managing facility use, and supporting coaches and student-athletes. The director works under the guidance of the District Athletic Director and collaborates with administration, coaches, parents, and the broader school community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Liaison Role:
    Serve as the primary contact for high school athletic programs, working closely with coaches, parents, student-athletes, and administration.
  • Scheduling and Coordination:
    Schedule all high school athletic contests, practices, and events within MHSAA regulations and district policies and coordinate the use of school facilities.
  • Officials and Event Management:
    Hire and confirm contracts with officials for all athletic contests; ensure proper event preparation, venue setup, and maintain communication with game officials.
  • Budget and Financial Management:
    Assist in managing the high school athletic budget by ensuring efficient use of resources and accurate financial records.
  • Transportation Logistics:
    Ensure transportation for high school athletic teams, working closely with coaches.
  • Eligibility & Compliance:
    Prepare student‑athlete eligibility lists and communicate regularly with coaches about potential eligibility concerns.
  • Facility Maintenance & Safety:
    Work with the District Athletic Director and building administration to inspect athletic facilities, ensuring they are safe and meet all district and MHSAA standards.
  • Equipment & Uniforms:
    Supervise inventory, storage, and maintenance of athletic equipment and uniforms.
  • Coach Support & Development:
    Provide leadership and support to high school coaches; assist in evaluating head coaches and, as needed, participate in evaluation of assistant coaches.
  • Athletic Training Rules:
    Enforce athletic training rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Reports & Records:
    Maintain accurate records of contests, student participation, and team outcomes; submit required reports to the District Athletic Director and building principal.
  • Other Duties:
    Perform other duties as assigned by the District Athletic Director, building principal, or administration.
Minimum Qualification
  • Valid teaching certificate (secondary level, any subject).
  • Strong knowledge of MHSAA regulations and high school athletics.
  • Proven leadership and organizational skills.
  • Experience managing budgets and scheduling athletic events.
  • Ability to work effectively with coaches, parents, student‑athletes, and administrators.
  • Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills.
